Where Do You Get Your Craft Supplies?
It seems whenever a new season begins we start looking at the pile catalogs we get from various companies to order our arts and crafts supplies. We, of course, have our favorite vendors, but they don’t always carry what we need or have the best prices. So here is my take on the companies we use.
Discount School Supply
Discount School Supply is my favorite company for one reason – shipping. If our order is over a certain amount (usually around $79) then shipping is free. The best part, however, is that it only take 2 days to get to us. In other words, they get the order filled right away and ship it FAST! I love that!
On the flip side their website isn’t great, the images are often blurry and the search tool doesn’t give the best results. Also, while they have all the normal supplies you’ll need I still find that I have to go to one of the other suppliers for items that are a little more unusual.
S&S Worldwide has a great variety of products from crafts upplies to sports equipment and more. For example, we use a lot of beads for various crafts and programs. S&S carries fuzzy pony beads – and the kids love them. I haven’t been able to find them through any of our other suppliers as of this writing. In other words S&S has in stock items you won’t find elsewhere.
So why aren’t they my favorite? The same reason Discount School Supply is my favorite – shipping. S&S takes a long time to get your order to you. They say that your order will go out the next day if you order before noon, but in my experience that is not always the case. Also they use FedEx or UPS Ground shipping and this usually takes around 5 WORKING days to get to us after it’s been shipped. I will say, however, taht their customer service is fantastic. I have had a couple of issues with them and they quickly make an adjustment on the billing, whether it’s a discount on shipping or a free item.
I am a huge fan of Amazon. They have a ton of products, free 2 day shipping if you’re a Prime member (which I am), incredible prices and outstanding customer service.
The reason I don’t usually order from Amazon is that they are limited on the craft supplies they carry. If it doesn’t ship through Amazon it comes from one of their marketplace vendors. That means higher prices, shipping charges and questionable customer service.
We have also ordered from Nasco, Triarco and Blick. While they all have their merits we usually find that all of our needs are met with the companies above, especially since we are usually odering more than just craft supplies.
