Here are three items that can be purchased online that I think make great gifts, for yourself or others.

One of the things I love to see at a holiday event where kids take pictures with Santa is a good looking throne for Santa to sit on. Unfortunately, thrones are expensive. Not to mention that many organizations don’t have much storage space to spare.

The other day we had a recreation specialist take a day off and there was nobody but me to run her classes. She had two classes, Eco Art and Fun with Nature. It had been a while since I taught outdoor education and I was in a panic. I had very little time to prep and needed ideas fast. With some brainstorming and help from my colleagues I had decided on two activities for the after school classes.

You’ve decided to offer a new after school program, or maybe an adult program. You’re pretty sure that enough people will be interested in taking the class. Now it’s time to create the curriculum.
Before you start you should make sure you cover my three E’s of programming – Entertainment, Education and Empowerment.

There used to be a great magazine called Motto. In one of the issues it highlighted the company Cranium. The article was very cool as is the company. One of the neat things that was in the article was Cranium’s 7 rules that their employees live by. If you’re a recreation professional I think you’ll appreciate these rules. I know I do.

Do you run Family Game Nights? This is where families are invited to your recreation center or local school to play various types of games with their family and other families. Here are 6 different activities you can run on Family Game Nights.

Summer has come to an end, as well as my month long vacation, but my favorite time of the year is approaching, fall – time to resume my writing.

It’s not easy to stay in contact with teens. From my experience they rarely look at the seasonal activity guides, rarely search out recreation programs through the parks and recreation department (YMCAs on the other hand do a pretty good job), and rarely, if ever, visit the city website. So what’s an organization to do?…

Summer means traveling for many people. When out-of-towners come to your city do you have any recreation programs available for them?
