What’s So Great About Kickball?

Playing kickball with older kids, say 5-8 graders? Use a 16″ playground ball. This supersized ball makes it a little more fun. Any kids younger than 5th grade may find the ball too hard to kick.

I also like having the pitcher be from the same team that is kicking. This way, the pitcher won’t be rolling the ball too fast, too slow or too bouncy. Make sure there is a no-bunt rule in place if you’re going this route.

If the older kids are burned out on kickball and you want to try a new version, a more complicated version that the kids might get into (if they can remember all the rules) check out Mojo Kickball.

Finally, you may be running adult softball, basketball and volleyball leagues, but have you considered a kickball league. Ah, you scoff, but have you played kickball lately? It’s still a lot of fun. I really think that all recreation organizations that already run leagues should not only have a dodgeball league, but a kickball league as well.
